Toumba Moutsouna

Sunday, December 12th, 2021

International Mountain Day is celebrated annually on 11th December to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development, and build alliances that will bring positive change to mountain peoples and environments around the world.

The Cretan mountains are endangered due to desertification, erosion, climate crisis,  uncontrolled wind generators and new roads, and overgrazing.

Our Club, in cooperation with the Club of Lassithi and several environmental organisations, is organising this hike in the Natura 2000 area of Lassithi Plateau, onto the peak of Toumba Moutsouna, which is situated at an altitude of 1538m a.s.l. Our hike starts from the village of lati, at 850m

Cancellations of participation are possible until 22:00 on Friday.

ATTENTION: All participants have to wear face masks on the bus and carry a vaccination certificate or a negative 48-hour rapid test.
