Mt Pelion

Saturday 24th – Thursday 29th October 2026

A fsix-day trip to Mt Pelion, the mountain of the Centaurs, by the town of Volos in central Greece.

The Mountain of the Centaurs, which also served as the summer residence of the gods of Olympus, offers us the opportunity to hike through and explore this remarkable landscape.

Pelion is a lush, forested mountain, covered with towering beech and oak trees, plane trees, wild chestnut trees, Scots pine, as well as clusters of hybrid fir. It has an extensive network of trails and traditional stone-paved paths (kalderimia), which, together with the Volos–Milies railway, formed the only means of communication between the villages and the city of Volos until the 1950s.

Despite the passage of time, many of these old trails have been preserved in very good condition, thanks to the care of the local communities. They offer visitors the opportunity to explore the mountain up close and safely.

We  hike along several of these historic trails during this trip.

Payment must be made to the IBAN accounts of the Heraklion Mountaineering Club (EOS Heraklion), and the Club must be informed by sending the deposit receipt via email.
