Richti Gorge
Sunday 3rd May 2026
Richtis Gorge is one of the most beautiful small gorges in eastern Crete, offering an exceptional hike through dense vegetation along the bed of a small river. The stream flows for almost the entire year, creating a magnificent waterfall along the way.
It begins just outside the village of Exo Mouliana, on the foothills of Orno Mountain, 25 kilometers before Sitia. There is an entrance fee to access the gorge.
The route is lush with plane trees, oleanders, ivy, and wild olive trees. It passes the beautiful old stone-arched Lachanas Bridge, built in 1907, as well as the ruins of old settlements.
A little past the middle of the hike, a wooden staircase leads to the stunning 15-meter waterfall and the small pool formed by its waters. Swimming here is wonderful on hot summer days—don’t forget your swimsuit!
The return follows the same route.
