b. Alones -Argyroupoli
Sunday, May 18th, 2025
The walk begins from Alones, Rethymno (510m), through the lush green gorge of the area, for about 2 km, under the shade of plane trees.
We then follow a dirt road that leads us to the exit of the Moundros Gorge, aiming for the rocky hill formed to the west of the gorge, through which the trail passes. This hill is called Nisiani, named after the now-abandoned settlement of Nisi, which we will pass through.
The final part of the route, after Nisi, heads northeast and descends to the riverbed of Dichalopotamos. Walking alongside the riverbed, on a cool and verdant path, we will end our hike at the site of the Five Virgins and in the village of Argyroupoli.
