b. Nida Plateau – Kamaraikon Cave – Nida Plateau
Sunday, November 10th, 20124
The hike starts and ends on Nida Plateau (1368m). It traverses the southern slopes of Mt Psiloritis, passes by some impressive mitata and a Prickly-oak forest, and ends up at Kamaraikon Cave (1700m).
A distinctive style of Minoan pottery produced by the Minoans in Crete, called Kamares ware, was excavated from this cave. It is recognizable by its light-on-dark decoration, with white, red, and orange abstract motifs painted over a black background. They are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion.
We follow the same way back to Nida Plateau.
