Chiona – Karoumes – Chochlakies

A day hike to the easternmost part of Crete.

We start from Chiona Beach near Palekastro with a short visit to the archaeological site of Roussolakos. We continue along an up-going path to the top of Petsofas Hill, at 250m a.s.l.

Then we go down past three remote beaches until we reach the beach of Karoumes, where we stop for a swim and some rest. Later we hike across the gorge of Chochlakies, which is full of blooming oregano at this time of the year. We end our hike in the village of Chochlakies.

Plenty of water is necessary to fight heat in the rocky terrain.
