Schinokapsala – Orino Gorge – Koutsouras

A hike on the southern slope of Mount Thripti.

We start from the location Psychro, at 470m a.s.l. between Agios Ioannis and Schinokapsala, Ierapetra. After a visit to the abandoned watermills, we move north-northeast to the spot Livadakia, at 985m, where we can get water for a large part of our hiking route. We cross the pine forest of Kynigospiliou, where we meet the remnants of resin collection activity. Then we continue our way across a pine forest and following a dirt road and a path we reach the spot Prinos.

From there we descend to the spot Skafi where lime kilns are preserved and we continue eastwards to enter the Gorge of Orinos. We admire the waterfall of Orinos, at 521m, and follow the path along the gorge until we reach the small forest of Koutsouras.
