An ascent to the highest peak of the White Mountains, suitable for non-expert hikers. Only a little mountaineering experience and the basic gear are required.
We set off early on Sunday morning towards Sfakia and reach the village of Anopolis, at 600m a.s.l. Then small trucks transfer us to a spot called Rousses, at 1900m a.s.l. From there we hike up to Pachnes peak, at 2453m, the highest peak of the White Mountains and second highest of Crete. On the way back we take the same route.
The hike is suitable for newbies. Only a little mountaineering experience and the basic gear are required.
