Azorias – Kastro

Sunday, September 22nd, 2019

An interesting circular hike in eastern Crete.

We start from the village of Kavousi, Ierapetra, at 140m a.s.l. and hike up to the Ancient Olivetree of Kavousi. We continue past the small Byzantine chapel of Agia Paraskevi and the Minoan ruins of Vrondos and up to the peak Kastro, at 710m. Then we go down to the archaeological site of Azorias and reach the small village of Avgos along a dirt road. Following a side trail along the Chavgas gorge, we end in Kavousi again.

After the hike and provided there is enough time, we may go to Tholos beach for a swim.
