Paranymfi – Tris eklisies – Paranymfi
Sunday, December 16th, 2018
The last hike of the year brings us to the Asteroussia Mountains and the Libyan Sea in southern Crete.
We start from the village of Paranymfi, at 600m a.s.l., heading south to the old chapel of St Pavlos. We continue following an old trail down having all the greatness of the Libyan Sea in front of us. After crossing a carob-tree forest we reach the settlement of Tris Eklisies (=Three Churches).
According to our plan, we continue eastwards until the lower end of Klisoura gorge, which we cross following a difficult and heavily damaged trail. Then we follow a dirt road and end back in Paranymfi.
For those who wish to end their hike in Tris Eklisies, there is the alternative of spending some time in the settlement or even go for a swim and then come back to Paranymfi in small trucks.
