a. Gigilos Peak

Saturday 13th – Sunday 14th October 2018

A weekend in the White Mountains and ascent to the peak of the imposing Mt Gigilos, the rocky mountain above Samaria Gorge.

We set off on Saturday afternoon and spend the night on Omalos Plateau in rooms or tents.

Early on Sunday morning, we start from Xyloskalo, at 1200m a.s.l. We follow the E4 European trail and pass by impressive rock formations, we have a short stop at Linoseli, the water spring and then reach the saddle at 1650m enjoying the view. We continue on rocky terrain admiring the breathtaking view over the biggest part of western Crete until we reach the top, at 1980m.

We follow the same route on our way down.
