Apopigadi – Spina – Kandanos

Saturday 10th – Sunday 11th November 2018

A two-day trip in autumn colours in the greater area of Paleochora, in southwestern Crete.

We set off from Heraklion early on Saturday afternoon to Paleochora.

On Sunday morning the bus takes us to the village of Kandanos, at 425m a.s.l. and small trucks take us up on Mt Apopigadi, at 1234m. We hike along the ridge enjoying the panoramic view and past some small chapels, a Turkish fortress, as well as plane and chestnut tree woods. Then we reach the small village of Spina and we hike  parallel to the Spina gorge,  along a dirt road that used to be a national road in the past, which brings us back to Kandanos.
