Samaria Gorge with Chania Mountaineering Club

Saturday 22nd – Sunday 23rd April 2017

Our Club is invited this year by the Mountaineering Club of Chania to participate in the celebration of the small church of Samaria in the old village of Samaria in the middle of the gorge. This is the only time of the year that spending the night in the National Park is allowed.

We set off on Saturday noon and reach Xyloskalo on Omalos Plateau. Then we meet with the people from Chania and we hike together to Samaria village. There we spend the night in our tents.

A Holy Mass takes place on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Then we leave the gorge either southwards provided the passage in Portes is accessible or northwards back to Xyloskalo.
