Omalos Plateau – Kallergi Refuge – Melidaou Peak

Saturday 26th – Sunday 27th March 2016

Two days in the imposing White Mountains in western Crete.

We set off late on Saturday morning. We reach Omalos Plateau, at 1080m a.s.l. and we hike along a new trail to Kallergi Refuge, where we spend the night.

Early on Sunday morning we start our ascent to Melidaou Peak, at 2,133m. If possible we may visit a couple of nearby peaks, too. On our way down we stop by the Refuge, collect our things and hike down to Xyloskalo following the classic trail.

Provided there is snow on the mountain, winter gear and relevant experience is necessary.

People who do not wish to hike up to the peak but only to admire the White Mountains, live the experience of Kallergi Refuge and just walk in the area around are free to join the weekend. Their hike is only up to and down from the Refuge.
