Kofinas peak – Koudouma Monastery – Agios Ioannis

Saturday 1st – Sunday 2nd August 2015

A special weekend in the south Asteroussia Mountains, which are regarded as the Monastery Center of the South Aegean Sea.

On Saturday we start from the 1000m a.s.l. and go up to Kofinas Peak, at 1231m. Then we go down a trail to Koudouma Monastery by the sea. Optionally we can visit a nearby sacred cave. We spend the night in tents or sleepingbags.

On Sunday we move westwards along the coastal trail in the shade of pine trees.We visit the impressive cave of Agios Antonios, then past Elygia beach and we reach the settlement of Agios Ioannis, where we can enjoy the sea. There is an additional optional hike from Agios Ioannis to Salamia beach and back, which takes 5 more hours.

During the whole weekend we carry only our day backpack. All the rest luggage is transported by vans.
