Friday, 1st May, 2015

Mayday spent with fellow hikers from EPOS Fylis Club from Athens, a day of voluntary Minoan trail maintenance and cultural activities.

We start from the village of Kastamonitsa, at 550m a.s.l. where we are treated breakfast by the local Cultural Club. Then we set off to clear the Minoan Road, an ancient trail used to connect the lowlands with the sacred Lassithi Plateau.

When we finish, we visit a traditional cheese-dairy, where we try lots of tasty products. Then we visit two local houses , where two ladies show us the secrets of  producing traditional crisp bread.

If we wish so, we can have dinner at local taverns or, alternatively, wer eturn to Heraklion.
