Vrontisi Monastery – Chalasokefala Peak – Rouvas – Zaros

Sunday, October 12th, 2014

A beautiful but demanding mountain hike across the forested area of southern Mt Psiloritis.

We start our hike from Vrontissi Monastery, at 540m a.s.l. and we reach Chalasokefala peak, at 1922m, where we can enjoy the panoramic view. Up to here we follow no trail along our upgoing route. The altitude difference is 1382m.

Later we go down still following no trail on a quite rocky terrain until the small chapel at Dyo Prini. Then we follow a nice trail down to Rouvas Forest, across Rouvas Gorge and we end up by Zaros lake, at 420m.

Previous experience on rocky terrains and good hiking boots are necessary.
