Kissamos
Saturday 4th – Sunday 5th April 2026
A special two-day trip to western Crete awaits us on April 4th – 5th. Each of the two hikes has its own unique character: one day dedicated to the mountains and the other to the sea.
We depart from Heraklion on Saturday morning, heading towards Kastelli Kissamos, western Crete, where we stay overnight in a hotel. Over these two days, we have the opportunity to hike along trails in the surrounding area and enjoy its natural beauty.
Detailed Program:
Day 1: Saturday, March 4th, 2026
Marouliano Gorge
Our hike starts from the chestnut forest in Sirikari, Kissamos. Following a dirt road through the forest, we reach the abandoned settlement of Marouliana, from where we enter the lush green Marouliano Gorge, which we ascend.
Passing several waterfalls, we reach the area known as Kolympoi. From there, we return to Sirikari via a forest trail, completing a circular route.
Day 2: Sunday, March 5th, 2026
Falassarna – Sfinari
We walk along the wild coastline of western Crete. Our route begins at Rapanas Beach in Falassarna, following a dirt road that leads us to the small chapel of Saint Apostle Paul, a site associated with the Apostle Paul’s passage through Crete.
From the chapel, we continue along old coastal paths. Along the way, we see lesser-known caves of great historical significance and beaches with unique geological formations. We pass through the now-abandoned settlement of Schinos before finishing at the beach of Sfinari.
Payment must be made to the IBAN accounts of the Heraklion Mountaineering Club (EOS Heraklion), and the Club must be informed by sending the deposit receipt via email.
