Chochlakies Gorge – Kato Zakros in full moon
Saturday 29th – Sunday 30th August 2015
A weekend on the eastern coast of Crete.
We set off on Saturday morning and, after a stop in Sitia for a traditional sweet and coffee, we come to the small village of Chochlakies. A small but impressive gorge, full of origano, starts here. We cross it and reach Karoumes beach, where we can go swimming, have a picnic and spend the night in sleepingbags in the full moon.
On Sunday morning we hike along the coastal trail. We pass by the Pelekita Cave, one of the longest in Crete, 310m, full of stalactites and stalagmites. Our hike ends in Kato Zakros, where there are taverns and cafes and a nice beach.
Important notice: During the whole weekend we carry all we need ourselves, so the lighter the better. Mind that you have enough water with you for both days.
