Mitata of the Apokoronas Highlands

Sunday 15th November 2026

This mountain hike follows mainly trails used by local shepherds, who spend much of their lives in the uniquely beautiful landscape of the Apokoronas highlands.

The mitata (traditional stone shepherds’ huts) and small chapels we encounter along the way  remind us of the enduring bond between the people of this region, the mountains and their pastoral way of life.
