Kritsa Gorge
Sunday 2nd August 2026
On this outing, we hike along the bed of Kritsa Gorge, reaching almost to its upper end. It is a beautiful gorge, especially in its second half.
We start from the exit of the gorge at Kritsa. At first, the gorge is narrow and impressive. Further on, at the junction with the stream leading to Tapes (Evgenios Gorge), it opens up.
From this point, the participants split into two groups:
Group A heads towards the village of Tapes, where their hike will end. They then board the bus and visit the archaeological site of Lato, followed by a swim at Agios Panteleimon Beach.
Group B continues left, following the winding bed of Kritsa Gorge. The gorge gradually narrows again and becomes increasingly shaded by dense tree vegetation, providing a pleasant walking environment. The route exits the gorge at Astividopo, before reaching the Kritsa–Katharo road, where the group boards the bus and joins the first group at Agios Panteleimon Beach for a swim before returning to Heraklion.
This is the first complete traverse of Kritsa Gorge organized by our Club.
