a. Krasi – Vitsilovrysi – Karfi – Tzermiado

Sunday, March 30th, 2025

We start our hike from Krasi (600m) and ascend to Vitsilovrysi, which means “fountain of eagles” (900m). We continue to the summit of Karfi (1130m), which offers a panoramic view.

Karfi is a distinct large rocky outcrop that resembles a nail, giving its name to the wider area. On this hill, there was originally a peak sanctuary from the Middle Minoan period (2200–1550 BC). Here lie the ruins of one of the most important Late Minoan settlements, which developed between 1200–1100 BC.

We then descend to the picturesque Nisimos plateau, pass by the chapel of Timios Stavros (Holy Cross), and finish at Tzermiado (845m).
