Mt Oxa – Ancient Naxos

Sunday, October 15th, 2017

An interesting hike on Mt Oxa and the site of ancient Naxos in the greater ara of Elounda.

We start our hike from the village of Ellinika, at 145m a.s.l. A dirt road brings us to the foot of Mt Oxa. Our ascend follows an ancient damaged path up to 540m, where ancient Naxos used to be. The view over Spinalonga penninsula and Mirabello bay from up there is majestic. Then we move along the mountain to the highet point, at 550m, where a small chapel stands.

We return on the same way. Then the bus takes us to Plaka for a rest, a swim or dinner.
