Agios Ioannis, Sfakia – Agia Roumeli

Saturday 16 – Sunday 17th May 2015

A spring weekwend in the beautiful region of Sfakia, in western Crete. We set off on Saturday afternnon and we spend the night in Agios Ioannis, Sfakia, at 780m a.s.l., in rooms or tents. On Sunday we hike down to Agia Roumeli from two different routes, a more demanding one that crosses the Elygia gorge and an easier one that goes down to Agios Pavlos. Then we return to Sfakia by boat.

A. The first route follows a nice trail in the woods, goes past Kormokopos Cave and enters the Elygia Gorge. There is no trail any more so some experience on rough terrain is necessry. The gorge ends by the Libyan sea, where we meet the E4 European Trail and we end in Agia Roumeli.
